Can I set up my own SMS integration?

Hello,

I’m looking to create a MFA flow with mobile number OTP verification with user phone number. However, instead of Stytch SMS provider, I would like to use my local telecom API provider. Would it be possible to create such a flow?

Hey Tanish – thanks for posting!

This isn’t possible at the moment, but I’d be happy to pass this along internally as a feature request for future consideration. Right now, Stytch handles all SMS communication via our own SMS providers, which includes a backup provider in case of primary provider downtime.

Thank you Nicole for your message.

We are located in a country where SMS facility is unavailable. Unsupported countries | Stytch Consumer authentication

This feature would help us and others support up 2FA with SMS for countries where Stytch doesn’t support SMS. I think it would be great if we could set up our own functions or endpoints that would generate codes and verify the codes with Stytch.

Hey Tanish - noted, thanks for that additional context, we’ve passed it along!

One other thing to call out is that the unsupported countries list only applies to SMS OTP, and not WhatsApp OTP, which can often be a good alternative. Countries are generally on the unsupported list because they are high risk for Toll Fraud; WhatsApp is less susceptible to this type of attack generally.
